Moving for Monarchs and EarthArt Studios is proud to present THE DANCE OF LIFE as part of the 20th annual New York International Fringe Festival – FringeNYC. Gwynedd Vetter-Drusch, creator and NYC based performer, is currently rehearsing for the title role in “Evangeline: A Curious Journey,” a new musical, and will join forces with veteran actor and director Jo Vetter (“A Rock n’ Roll Midsummer Night’s Dream,” Edinburgh Fringe Festival).

THE DANCE OF LIFE reveals the mystery and majesty of the “dance of life,” which is the collective choreography and life-sustaining movements of pollinators, especially those most daring and delicate dancers: the monarch butterflies. Puppets, poetry, movement and music combine to create a magical world of monarch butterflies, portrayed in both the mountains of Mexico and the prairies of the Great Plains. Grandmother of the Butterflies, a masked figure, emerges to share the story of the origins of the dance; eons later, a young girl befriends a monarch butterfly and dances with him; but all is not pastorally perfect. A relatively new force threatens the ancient choreographies of the “dance.” In this modern fable, ignorance, greed, and thoughtless destruction threaten not only the butterflies, but also human hope, the existence of beauty, and the survival of our sleepwalking society.

Joining the cast of THE DANCE OF LIFE as Grandmother of the Butterflies is Pilar Garcia, who appeared on Broadway in the popular mime show, “Mummenschanz.” Further NYC credits include:  member of the CSC Repertory Company, The Paper Bag Players, and the Richard Morse Mime Theater. Ms. Garcia has been mime coach to Prima Ballerina Gelsey Kirkland, as well as and mime/movement coach to David Bowie in Broadway’s “The Elephant Man.

THE DANCE OF LIFE is a production of Moving for Monarchs, a dance project for monarch butterfly conservation (founded by Gwynedd Vetter-Drusch), and EarthART Studios, a production company dedicated to using the performing arts as a vehicle to enlighten audiences about social and environmental issues. To date, Moving for Monarchs has given a TEDx Talk in Morelia, MX, produced two short films (one online here: and the other preparing for film festival submissions), and conducted numerous live performances in communities in the U.S. and Mexico. Through our online presence and these events, we have touched the lives of 5,000+ people, inspiring them to move on behalf of butterflies and bees by planting and protecting pollinator habitat.
